The benefits of being a volunteer

Volunteering is one of the best ways to “pay it forward” while also allowing you to actively participate in of the biggest events in Southern Arizona.
 
Your tireless commitment and dedication to our mission is crucial to our success. But your hard work during tournament week also comes with some super cool volunteer perks, including:
Your volunteer badge will admit you to the grounds on the days you are scheduled to work. It will also allow you access into the Volunteer Headquarters and direct access into your designated committee assignment area. Your credential is required and must be visible and worn at all times while attending the event during both your scheduled and non-scheduled roles. Your credentials also provide you general admission access to the tournament as a spectator when you’re not volunteering.
 

Each volunteer will receive a box lunch on scheduled days of work. Snacks and drinks will also be available at the volunteer registration desk each morning and throughout the day.

All volunteers will receive official Cologuard Classic gear to wear while working at the event including a jacket (outerwear), golf shirt, and a golf hat/cap.

All volunteers will receive ten (10) complimentary general admission tickets, good for any day, to share with your friends and family.

Monday 3/4 and Tuesday 3/5: Volunteers will park on-site at The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa.

Wednesday 3/6 – Sunday 3/10: Volunteer parking will be located at Sweet Tomatoes Restaurant on the NE corner of Stone & Wetmore near the Tucson Mall.

Volunteers will need to show their volunteer badge to enter this parking lot.

Complimentary round-trip shuttle service will be provided to and from the golf course throughout the day, before and after shifts. Shuttle buses will drop volunteers off at the Volunteer Headquarters located at The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa.

To qualify for your free round of golf, volunteers must work a minimum of 24 hours during tournament week. Each qualifying volunteer will be able to request one of the assigned dates on a first come, first served basis. (Dates are not yet determined but golf is typically provided within six weeks after the professional tournament.)

All volunteers (plus one guest) will receive an invitation to our evening celebration that honors our hardworking volunteers, including a complimentary buffet dinner, adult beverages provided, music & dancing, awards, raffle prizes, and more!

What you need to know about volunteering

Whether you’ve volunteered for years or this is your very first tournament, we appreciate your interest and thank you in advance for your energy and effort.
 
We look forward to working with you to ensure the success of the 2024 Cologuard Classic by Exact Sciences and are confident that you will find this experience to be extremely rewarding.
 
As an ambassador for our town and tournament, the responsibility of a volunteer is very simple. Here’s what to remember about volunteering for the 2024 at the Cologuard Classic from March 3 – March 10, 2024:
Whether you’ve asked for a specific position or have been assigned to a certain area, please be there on time for the shifts you’ve been assigned and perform the specific duties of your position with a positive attitude and to the best of your abilities during the full extent of your shift(s).
Wear the required uniform and, if you bring extra clothes or additional items, make sure they are approved, are not considered offensive in any way, and that they are complimentary colors that align with the “blues” of the Cologuard brand.
As a representative of our town, the tournament, and the Tucson Conquistadores, all volunteers and their guests should always speak politely, act professionally and engage positively with spectators, sponsors, players, partners and patrons. No illicit behavior will be tolerated including fighting, drinking on the job or soliciting or selling autographs.
The most important thing to remember, is to have a great time. Golf is supposed to be fun, so please, have fun doing your job. Meet new friends. Make lasting memories. Take in the scenery. Engage with fans. Support Southern Arizona. And enjoy yourself! It will be a great week of giving back, so make the most of it.

On-Course Opportunities

Possible opportunities and volunteer committees

While we can’t guarantee you’ll be assigned to a specific area or work alongside your significant other, we will certainly do our best to accommodate you and your loved ones within reason, including any “limitations” or health concerns you might have.
 
Volunteer roles and responsibilities may vary by day, are not guaranteed, and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Once you have been assigned a committee you will receive an email with further information that will be followed up by a direct communication from your committee chair.
 
We can’t wait to see you out there. Here are some potential volunteer positions and a description of the required role:
Assist with admission, lost & found, ticketing issues, and support at or near the main gate entrance & exit. Check for proper credentials and provide general information. Help with Will Call ticket pick-up and drop-offs. Heavy client interaction expected and position may require occasional or often standing.
Days of Operation: Friday – Sunday (March 8-10) of tournament week
Assist with the Professional Caddie registration and services throughout tournament week. Distribute, wash & collect towels & bibs, maintain the caddie lounge area and act as a concierge to Caddies on-site. On Wednesday and Thursday of tournament week, help manage the registration, support and logistics of the Official Pro-Am amateur caddie’s program.
Days of Operation: Monday, March 3 – Sunday, March 10
Provide information and assistance to corporate clients ensuring these high-profile hospitality guests enjoy their experience. Greet guests and confirm properly credentialed clients are allowed in private hospitality areas. Assist the Marshal Committee with noise control when players approach hospitality areas. Some client interaction necessary and position may require occasional or often standing.
Days of Operation: Friday – Sunday (March 8-10) of tournament week
Measure and record the yardage of a professional player’s golf ball on the fairway using scoring devices provided by the PGA TOUR Staff. Training included. Days of Operation: Thursday, March 7 (PGA TOUR practice day) – Sunday, March 10
Provide gallery noise control, assist in player movement, help locate errant golf shots and provide spectators with general information. Marshals will also assist with the player movement on and off the course due to weather delays or whenever deemed necessary. This committee requires standing for extended periods of time in addition to walking to various positions around the hole. Marshals will be asked to attend a training session prior to the tournament. Shifts are ONE FULL DAY. Please note the hole that you would prefer to work. Starting times may vary due to assignment.
Days of Operation: Wednesday, March 6 – Sunday, March 10
Assist with golf carts and related logistics as they are used for shuttles and transportation on-course. Responsible for transporting players, caddies, tour officials and VIPs to/from specific areas determined and approved by rules committee.
Days of Operation: Friday – Sunday (March 8-10) of tournament week
Accompany each group of professionals during play and display their scores on a standard sign. Must be able to lift and carry a vertical sign (approx. 7 lbs.) and walk 18 holes without a break. This committee requires standing for extended periods of time in addition to walking the entire golf course in one day.
Days of Operation: Wednesday, March 6 – Sunday, March 10
Load/unload, inventory, distribute, haul away and maintain key tournament supplies such as ice, coolers, snacks, drinks, pairings sheets and programs to designated areas across the property. Committee requires a significant amount of lifting and carrying. Golf cart operation may be required. Must be age 18 or older with a valid driver’s license issued by the volunteer’s jurisdiction of residency in order to operate a golf cart transporting supplies.
Days of Operation: Monday, March 3 – Sunday, March 10
Provide transportation to professionals and VIP guests before, during, and after the tournament. Assist with the inventory of and control the distribution of official tournament vehicles including carts, cars and vans. Committee also assists in the return of vehicles after the tournament. Drivers must be at least 25 years old and provide a valid driver’s license issued by the volunteer’s jurisdiction of residency. This committee sometimes requires a lot of downtime due to the players’ unpredictable schedule.
Days of Operation: Monday, March 3 – Sunday, March 10
Responsible for the operation, organization of, and management of Volunteer Headquarters during tournament week (exclusive use of credentialed volunteers). Assist with handing out food and beverages, check-in and maintaining a clean environment.
Days of Operation: Monday, March 3 – Sunday, March 10
Record statistics and scores of Pros and players on an electronic device during Pro-Am and/or competition rounds. Volunteers must be capable of using necessary technology and able to walk 18 holes without a break. Walking Scorers will be asked to attend a MANDATORY training session prior to the tournament.
Days of Operation: Wednesday, March 6 – Sunday, March 10
